The DCA’s letter to UPP’s General Secretary cites a December 2022 agreement for temporary billboards during the 2023 elections.
The DCA noted the billboards’ extended display violates the agreement and regulatory compliance.
Failure to remove them may lead to demolition, as was seen with UPP Senator Jonathan Joseph’s billboard on Thursday.
Observers promptly remarked on “the ABLP’s overreaction to these posters and billboards” and went on to demand an “urgent investigation into why they are so agitated about this.”
Another individual questioned, “Did the DCA also demolish the billboards for Molwyn Joseph and Gaston Brown along the same road as Jonathan’s?” The answer for all who looked was a resounding “No.”
Several people cited “DCA overreach, the impact of political influence, or acting within their mandate.”
The billboard demolished was the property of UPP Senator Johnathan Joseph. Accordingly, attorney Leon “Chaku” Symister, the Party’s spokesperson on legal matters, says the action taken by the DCA will be challenged in the High Court of Justice.
Calling the action illegal and politically motivated, Symister confirmed that UPP Political Leader Jamale Pringle has directed that this matter be taken before the court right away.
One thing is certain: the Billboard Bandit has been a source of intrigue and amusement over the past few weeks, and the DCA’s actions have undeniably sparked conversations about and shone a bright light on government overreach and the abuse of political power.
